Solar System For Factory In Malaysia

solar system for factory

With the ongoing global efforts to pivot to renewable energy, reducing their carbon footprint and cutting their operational costs, it’s easy to see why plenty of businesses worldwide are starting to invest in solar panels and start generating solar energy. Many are already looking for commercial solar panels to save on energy bills.

Today’s modern factories and warehouses are often built upon thousands of square kilometers. Recently, savvy business owners are seeing the potential to harness renewable energy simply by installing solar panels to the roofs of these factories and warehouses to bring their energy costs and electricity bill down!

In this article, we’ll explore more about the different advantages and uses of solar panel systems (solar pv system) for factories, the government initiative that is applicable to industrial solar panels and the different factors that affect the final cost of installing solar panels for factories.

Advantages Of Solar System For Factory

1) Factories can use the generated electrical energy during peak manufacturing hours

As normal peak manufacturing hours are during the day which coincides with timings of maximum solar exposure, factories can shift to the solar energy generated by their solar panel systems and reduce their grid electricity costs significantly.

2) Solar panel systems are known for their ease of maintenance

Solar power has no moving parts or complex mechanical components. They are far less liable to equipment faults and breakdown. Additionally, solar power is noise-free which further improves its business and environmental friendliness!

What You Need To Know About The NOVA Program From SEDA

The Net Offset Virtual Aggregation Program (NOVA Program) is one of the three initiatives that was introduced under NEM 3.0 by the Malaysian government.

This initiative is targeted at commercial and industrial consumers, especially those that are affected by Covid-19 and its effect on the business economy. It is an effort to help entrepreneurs and local companies to reduce electricity bills and the cost of doing business.

In simple terms, the NOVA Program allows businesses to:

  1. Utilize the electricity generated by their solar panel system, especially for factories
  2. Sell the excess electricity that’s generated by their solar panel system to the grid at a pre-determined market rate (which will be converted to credits for next month’s bills)
  3. Offset the excess electricity generated via distribution through virtual aggregation to up to 3 electricity bill accounts under the same name

Hence, the NOVA Program is the perfect opportunity for entrepreneurs, and local businesses to reduce their electricity bills and operational costs.

It should be noted that applications for a quota allocation under the NOVA Program may be submitted to SEDA from 1 April 2021 until 31 December 2023 or until the quota has been fully taken up.

What Are The Cost Factors For Solar System For Factory

a) The size of the solar panel system

This will be determined by the factory’s available roof space, electricity usage, and financial goals. As systems scale to larger sizes with more panels, the overall cost of the factory’s system will increase primarily due to the larger number of panels, mounting infrastructure, and cabling.

b) The types of solar panel systems used

The type of commercial solar systems for factories that are chosen will also affect the overall cost. This is due to reasons such as the equipment used to attach solar panels to a standing seam metal roof is different from a ballasted system on a flat roof.

Each of these solar panel systems have costs that vary based on the type of components required!

c) The different solar panels, inverters and various solar technology chosen

The basic components of a commercial solar power system include the solar panels, the inverter power station, the cable management system, the mechanical mounting system, and the monitoring and energy management software system.

The cost of these will depend on the manufacturer, type, and quality of each of these components, affecting both the upfront as well as the long-term costs.
